Aaron Miscenich

Aaron Miscenich is currently the Executive Director of bwtech@UMBC, a 70+ acre research park located in Baltimore, Maryland. Home to over 525,000 square feet of office and lab space, bwtech houses over 130 companies. Prior to this position he spent 14 years as the President & CEO of the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, a technology business incubator located in the heart of the downtown business and research communities.  With an emphasis on entrepreneurship in university-based technologies, the BioInnovation Center was created as a mechanism to help launch companies by evaluating research by constructing a feasibility analysis, market and competition plan, and creating a full business plan around the most promising technologies. Miscenich’s experiences helped him to create strategies with local, regional, and national partners in reviewing intellectual property, designing business plans, devising capital structures, and various fundraising mechanisms. Part of this experience came from the management of a $2.4 million evergreen fund which provided equity investments, alternative finance/mezzanine lending, and senior debt transactions for start-ups and emerging companies. 

Other experiences included work as the interim Executive Director of the Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC) Chairperson of LouisianaBIO, the state affiliation the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) from 2009 to 2019, and Board Member of the Association of University Research Parks (AURP).  Miscenich has been a member of the Rotary Club of New Orleans since 1996, serving as President from 2012-2013.

Miscenich holds a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from the University of New Mexico and an M.B.A. in Finance and General Management from Tulane University.
